#4 What are the differences between activities and outcomes in the music curriculum?
The activity it the actions the person is taking to get to a specific, desired outcome. The outcome is only based on the activities the person is doing to learn and to benefit themselves. How the person does the activities and participates greatly influences the outcome and how the person’s end results will look/sound.
#8 Why is creative activity a valuable aspect of teaching music students?
Students must know that they are not learning music to simply repeat or play something that somebody has previously written and listened to. Music is something of the hear t and soul and part of being a musician is to create that music that you hear in your inner ear. Translating what you hear in your head into a song by improve, composition or a quick piano session is a large part of what music is about.
Project / Standard 8
1. In a way they are similar. It is a generally broad statement; “Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside of the arts.” This could mean at one level they could be learning this but in a way relevant to their material. For instance, a student learning a piece from the Romantic Era might be taught how the French Revolution changed ideas from Logic to Imaginary and free.
2. They differ in the way that they are being taught to different mind levels and must be made accessable and understanded by these levels. Information pertaining to deep history and economical failure might not be the route you would take to correlate the music of a younger student. Another route must be found to help make other connections.
3. Taking different turns in the band playing chords and a soloist just playing on top of them. It keeps everyone involved and makes EVERONE participate. Also, making students notate a tune they made up.
4. Correlating the music lesson to a specific topic the history teacher is talking about would be a good way to make the students realize that what they are learning about in one class is also very similar and directly related to what they are learning in the band/ choir room.
